The 3-Year Plan
With some grit and effort, you can achieve more than you think.
But, without you taking the first step, no matter the support, you won’t be able to go far.
DIM-EDU’s SHSAT PROGRAM
-
The three-year plan begins here. We will ensure that your student has multiple plans ready by 8th grade. By the time of their high school applications, students in this program could attend any specialized high school, were accepted to Townsend Harris, and had grades acceptable to every local high school program possible. Having options to choose what they want to do is the best privilege.
In math, this program will focus on teaching your child pre-algebra and algebra concepts. In addition, we will emphasize the importance of vocabulary, grammar, reading compression, and writing in English. But the greatest reward is that your child will understand how to study efficiently and effectively.
We are confident that your child will be one of the handfuls of highly academically achieving students. Moreover, by basing SHSAT foundations on our students, they will apply this knowledge in the common core state exams. All in one fell swoop.
Testing and interview is required to be enrolled in this program.
-
Our SHSAT Math program focuses on core test taking principles, and a well though out curriculum that tackles all of the topics that students need in order to get through the exam. Students will be tested, and given homework on concepts such as: Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics.
-
The SHSAT English section focuses on reading comprehension and grammar. In our program students will be given lessons on how to apply their knowledge of Sentence Structure and Formation, Punctuation, Usage, Organization, Unity, Cohesion, and Topic Development

Item description
DIM’s SHSAT program identifies each student’s weaknesses and works towards helping students reach their full potential. First, students will be given a mock exam as a baseline for where they currently stand. Afterward, we will note where the student is struggling on the test and assign work to shore up any areas in which the student needs help.
What’s on the test?
SHSAT ENGLISH
The English Language Arts section consists of 57 multiple-choice questions that assess revising/editing skills and reading comprehension. These questions are aligned to the New York State Learning Standards.
SHSAT MATH
The Math section consists of word problems and computational questions in either a grid-in or multiple-choice format. There are five grid-in questions and 52 multiple-choice questions. The Math questions involve application of mathematical skills, mathematical terms, and general concepts from the New York State Learning Standards for Mathematics.
Our SHSAT team has years of experience teaching students how to get into the school they want. We are confident that learning above and beyond the school curriculum will benefit your child in every way possible. By following our three-year plan beginning in the 5th grade, we can guarantee your child’s success is secured by the time they get ready for the high school applications in 8th grade.

All students at QHSS take AP classes, and many also take courses from York College professors that entitle them to college credit.
-
Brooklyn Technical HS
Brooklyn Technical High School has a particular focus on STEM subjects, especially those of an applied nature, and in many ways operates more like a college than a high school. At the end of their sophomore years, students are placed into one of 18 possible majors (decided based on a combination of a student’s preferences and demonstrated proficiency), which determines more selective courses students take in their final two years. It is the largest high school in the US by student population, and also has the largest AP program.
-
HS for Math, Science & Engineering @ City College
HSMSE offers both a challenging and comprehensive general academic program as well as particularly rigorous and high-quality course offerings in STEM disciplines. Students are required to take engineering courses, and take at least 5 courses in mathematics over their four years of high school. At the end of their sophomore year, students apply and are selected for one of three major concentrations (math, engineering, or medical research).
-
HS of American Studies @ Lehman College
HSAS is one of the newest and smallest specialized high schools, and focuses especially on American history. Students take American history courses three of their four years of high school and are required to take the AP US History exam.
-
